Not only that, but the lock nuts should be able to securely fasten to the U-bolt without excessive threading. • U-Bolt's Overall Width (O.W.)

The overall width is referred to the measurement across the widest points of the U-bolt, which includes the curve of the U shape. This measurement is going to ensure that the U-bolt is able to properly fit within the available space on the trailer frame or other components.

Typically, it is not recommended that you cut Trailer U-Bolts to fit a specific application. By cutting your trailer U-bolts, you could compromise their integrity, which would ultimately lead to reduced load capacity or failure.
